blackqueer+heatre.com is a witnessing space and digital ecosystem created to fill a long-standing void — holding together what has been scattered across artists, generations, and geographies, for too long.

“trusT the plus”: using the “+” symbol for the T
in “theatre” centers the trans experience. the +rans femme experience first and foremost.

the “+” then extends into the holding of us in our:
Poz communities.
houseless communities.
communities with disabilities.
neurodivergent/expansive communities.
and any other “letter folx” community including
family who do not identify with the word “queer”.

“queer” may not be the umbrella term for you
and that’s okay. that makes sense.

the “+” may not be enough for you, that’s okay too. that makes sense, too.

this digital space is eager to learn and find ways to center and hold us all up in ways that work best for us individually and collectively.

bq+ is not a theatre company. it is a living archive, a gathering place where our voices are shared, our histories unearthed, held, and preserved, and where vital connections are born, restored, and grown healthier.
