PASSION is a groundbreaking multimedia project and the first volume of blackqueer+heatre.com’s digital ecosystem. Through innovative cinetheatre recordings of live, dynamic staged readings of three plays by larryjean “Gene” powell, rehearsed at The New Los Angeles Theatre Center and filmed at the legendary Television City in Los Angeles, PASSION captures the ephemeral nature of live theatre while offering access to a kind of interiority only the cinematic eye can provide. These works extend across podcasts, audio dramas, micro-digital forms, and wellness activations, building a living archive and creative infrastructure.
larryjean decided to no longer wait to bring this project together and in the summer of 2024 they went from $0 dollars, post entertainment industry strikes, through wars and genocides, through LA fires, gov shutdowns, and the regular ole life crises we all have, to raising over $100,000 through a crowdfunding campaign, which also extended offline via in-person fundraising activations.
PASSION embodies bq+’s mission to create space for us all, online and in person, to communicate, commune, and, while honoring and supporting our own individual works, come together to build new narratives toward collective betterment, prosperity, and liberation. Get into it!
